Echo-Whisper

Standing amongst peers, in good company, Witness to their mirth, their stories well told. They jest and enjoy their comraderie; Myself, unable to be just as bold. 'Tis hard not to beam, the scene warms my heart, These things that I lack are ones to admire. Content all my life to stand far apart, To cross that gap, I did never aspire. Yet now, observing those worth respect, My mouth holds a smile but my eyes; they sting. This creeping feeling I did not expect. Why now after all, suddenly I wring? I could laugh even as the feelings swell, They let loose. I cry, unable to quell.

There are some dreams that fade from memory like a mist in the morning sun, and others that are discounted as easily as a metaphor used far too often. Then there are those that hang around for the rest of your life, sometimes just as a powerful memory and other times influencing your waking life. One such dream from my own collection occurred many years ago when I was still living at our old house, sleeping in the first room I ever had.
